Antisemitism Lawsuit Against Newton Schools Expanded to Include Violation of First Amendment
April 11, 2019

Students Forced to Perform Islamic Rituals; Taught Qur'an Divine, Bible Forged

NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS. Taxpayers suing to stop anti-Israel and anti-Semitic history lessons in Newton Public Schools (NPS) have added to their lawsuit new claims under the First Amendment's religion clauses. The amended complaint alleges that instructional and educational materials used to teach about the religion of Islam in NPS ninth-grade world history classes have no secular purpose, advance religious beliefs, and coerce participation in religious exercises.

As detailed in the extensively-documented 495-page complaint, public school students in Newton are evaluated and graded on how well they participate in Islamic rituals. Students are required to create banners proclaiming "there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger," and their grades are penalized if they failed to comply. Teachers present disparaging Islamic religious beliefs about Jews and Christians as fact. Students must memorize, recite, and analyze Islamic religious texts, including verses from the Qur'an such as, "Is not Allah the best of the Judges?" and, "Surely Allah is High, Great."

Israeli Election: A Vote of No Confidence in the Media
April 11, 2019

Given the enormous amount of focus that Israel receives in the foreign press, it’s hardly surprising that plenty has been written in the aftermath of what appears to be a Benjamin Netanyahu victory in the just completed Israeli election.

HonestReporting does not endorse any political party within Israel. We do, however, have the benefit of being on the ground, working and living in Israel and actually taking part in the elections.

But what about all of those foreign media outlets that are relying on their own journalists or external commentators for the “expert” analysis in order to decode what is a particularly complex democratic exercise with uncertain and fluid outcomes?

Official German Report Acknowledges Islamist Antisemitism in the Country
April 10, 2019

In a major break with the past, the German agency for domestic security — Bundesamt fuer Verfassungsschutz — has published a 40-page report whose title translates as “Antisemitism in Islamism.” The report defines Islamism as a form of political extremism among Muslims that wants to eliminate democracy, and where antisemitism is an essential ideological element.

Many Muslims are not antisemites. Yet the antisemitism problem in Islam is far from limited to people with extreme political views, or even to religious Muslims. The report indicates that many antisemitic incidents have been caused by individuals “about whom until then no indications were available to organized Islamism.” This suggests that these antisemitic acts were committed because of Islamism, which may not be the case.

5 Things The New York Times Got Wrong About Anti-Semitism
April 8, 2019

After years of trying to wake up the world to the rising tide of anti-Semitism, those on the front lines combating Jew-hatred welcomed the headline on the front page of The New York Timesthis week: “Anti-Semitism Is Back, From the Left, Right and Islamist Extremes.” At last, the Times was tackling the terrifying phenomenon that has re-emerged in Europe and the U.S. in recent years!

However, the story missed the mark – several marks, to be precise. For everyone concerned about the dramatic increase in anti-Semitism around the world, here are the five things you need to know about the Times’ piece on anti-Semitism.

Levin points to a New York Times headlinepublished during the Palestinian riots on the border between Gaza and Israel, which said: “Battle Weary, Hamas Gives Peaceful Protests a Chance.”

“The headline is ludicrous,” Levin says. “Has Hamas traded in its rockets for John Lennon’s anti-war music? Those so-called peaceful Hamas protests include rocks, firebombs and explosives hurled at Israelis. Not to mention recent rocket fire into the Tel Aviv area.”

Levin also notes that the New York Times took almost two weeks to seriously report about Hamas’s recent violent crackdown on their own people, which saw 70 Palestinian journalists targeted, according to reports on the ground.

The Democratic Party Is Radicalizing, Extremism isn’t just affecting the GOP
April 3, 2019

“Increasing antipathy aimed at Israel, one of the most estimable nations in the world. Two freshmen Democrats, Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, have embraced the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement targeting Israel, and House Democratic leaders faced a fierce backlash in their efforts to condemn the anti-Semitic remarks by Omar, who has a record of anti-Semitic comments and who most recently accused supporters of Israel of dual loyalties. (The Democratic House, unable to pass a measure that focused solely on anti-Semitism, eventually passed a resolution condemning ‘hateful expressions of intolerance.’)”

Blame for suffering in Gaza belongs to Hamas
April 2, 2019

“..the fact that there is no independent Palestinian state flourishing next to Israel is because that arrangement was rejected by Palestinian leaders — before Israel was created, when it was created and after it was created. It is an arrangement that Palestinian leaders render impossible or actively stiff-arm to this day. This is one of those facts which, for some, has never seemed to matter.

The fact that there is a security fence separating Israel from the West Bank — which indisputably burdens Palestinians — is because a multiyear bombing campaign orchestrated by Palestinian leadership, aimed at blowing Israeli civilians to pieces, made one necessary. This is another of those facts that are dreadfully inconvenient for some — even though it is unclear what choice Israel had but to build it if the killing and maiming inflicted on its people were to be stopped.

“It is the Hamas gangs that are terrorizing and suppressing the hungry in the Gaza Strip,” tweeted Hussein al-Sheikh, a close associate of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.”

April 2, 2019

The post and video were released in the midst of ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel.

Time for the Media to Adopt Antisemitism Definition

With antisemitism on the rise, it's vitally important to have a respected definition of what constitutes anti-Jewish hatred and intolerance. In recent years, one definition of antisemitism is gaining traction. Drawn up by the Berlin-based International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, this definition has been adopted and endorsed by a growing number of governments - most recently France.
